Pilcrow is owned by me, Amber Davidson. I am a self-taught graphic designer with extensive experience in writing and editing. I’ve been fascinated by typography and design ever since I learned to read. I will never forget the day, back in the early 1980s, when I first tried out a Macintosh computer. Oh my goodness! I could choose my own font! I could see on the screen exactly what my document looked like! I was hooked!
I “discovered” the internet rather late. In December 2004 a friend sent me a link to her brand-new blog. I’d never seen a blog before, and I was immediately captivated by the concept. Within days I started my own blog and signed up for an “Introduction to HTML” class at the local community college. That same spring I created a custom skin for my blog, combining canned clip art with a pretty font. Shortly after that, another blogger hired me to do hers. Thus Pilcrow was born.
Although one of the many joys of owning a business is being my own boss, I am very much a team player. Not only do I work in constant communication with my clients, but I do not hesitate to draw in other professionals when appropriate.
My number one priority is client satisfaction. I put my heart and soul into every project, no matter how large or small, and I will do everything in my power to exceed your expectations.
What’s a pilcrow?
Pilcrow is the name of the mark that editors use to indicate the beginning of a new paragraph: ¶. If you use Microsoft Word you’ve probably noticed the pilcrow button in the toolbar.
I chose Pilcrow for my company name because it symbolizes my love of and attention to the finest details of editing, typography, and design — not to mention my delight in obscure terminology.
